Play-based and family-centred intervention
Because conversations should be fun and functional.

Play-Based Activities.
Children learn best when they are engaged in motivating play that naturally holds their attention! We utilize this in therapy by using songs, movement, stories, toys, and games to target our goals. If your child isn’t interested in our activities, we let them pick their own! Therapists are creative and happy to deviate from their own agendas to keep your little one enjoying their interactions.

Family and Child-Centred.
When we meet families, two of our first questions always include: “What is hardest for you right now, as the parent?” and “What/when does your child want to communicate, but struggles?” We may know all about speech, language, communication and feeding… but we aren’t with you every day and need to learn which skills and strategies will make the biggest difference in your lives.

Lifelong Learning. For Everyone.
Child development is complicated, and there is always more to learn for both parents and professionals. We support parents to build their skills as communication partners by modelling this through our own professional development. Therapists with Brighten are encouraged to pursue certifications or trainings of interest, and give back to the community through free presentations, workshops, and sharing information online.
